Hi there, Just after some advice really. I went to my dentist last week complaining of tooth pain that started 9 days previously in the molar in front of an impacted wisdom tooth that was extracted last year. He scheduled in root canal treatment for today. Unfortunately, by yesterday, the infection spread and worsened to the point that my jaw is swollen, I can't open my mouth wider than about a finger's width. I'm in a lot of pain, despite taking paracetamol and ibuprofen, have a fever that seems to come on in the evening, and haven't slept properly in a week. I went in for an emergency appointment yesterday, where he prescribed antibiotics and said he couldn't do the RCT as planned because my mouth won't open far enough to access it. Worryingly, the next appointment I was offered is in three weeks' time - don't think I can bear the pain for that long. Today, the pain and swelling is worse rather than better - do you think I have any option other than just to bear the pain and wait for the antibiotics to kick in? so I just had a couple fillings and upon asking my doctor what anesthetic he was using he said septocaine. This visit was about 4 and a half hours ago and my face is just as numb as it was 20 minutes into the procedure. Had a couple fillings recently and the numbness only lasted a couple hours max. Is this normal or should I be concerned? Having a tough time talking and drinking water without spilling. The swelling is most extreme in the back above the molars, and gets less so moving toward the front of my mouth. It is only on the outside and very back of my gums. It doesnt hurt but its just strange how hard my gums are there and want to know if its any cause for concern. After a root canal my dentist filled my tooth with a temporary filling. The tooth was fine for a while but then it started hurting. I thought the temporary filling wore off, so I went to an emergency dentist who replaced it but said the filling was still ok. Next day I went to my dentist who removed a filling and left my tooth open (is that normal?). She left my tooth like this for around a month. There was no pain, I only had slight pain if I chewed on it. On monday I had an appointment and she again filled my tooth with a temporary filling. Now it hurts again. If I try to bite on it it feels like there's a swelling below the tooth. It hurts all the time and it hurts more if I press on the tooth with my tongue. I'm also starting to get a bit of a lymph node pain, which I already had before when she left the tooth open. Pain meds don't help. I only got reffered to an x-ray after I asked for it, she never suggested it herself. On monday I told her I didn't have time to get it done and she just said ok. She didn't say I need to get it done at all. My question is, is this pain just sensitivity after she was sticking those needle-y things in my canals on monday and it will go away or should I go back? Should I get an x-ray done? There has also been a recent trend to rename or create government secondary schools as colleges. In the state of Victoria, some state high schools are referred to as secondary colleges, although the pre-eminent government secondary school for boys in Melbourne is still named Melbourne High School.
